Water vole fencing
Full legal protection for Water Voles (Arvicola terrestris) was introduced in April 2008.
Water voles typically inhabit the banks of permanent watercourses such as rivers, ditches, ponds, and streams, they are both territorial and persistent so extensive specialist fencing is required to successfully contain them.
The ground conditions involved are often restrictive but with our experience in this area we can always find an appropriate solution.
Water vole netting or meshing is required to prevent re-colonisation, we are able install this quickly and easily. We are also able to construct water vole release pens at any translocation site.
Habitat improvements for water voles – we can improve habitats suitable for water voles by bank vegetation management to encourage fresh growth and provide feeding areas. Bank restoration and stabilisation using hazel faggots will also improve the quality of existing or potential habitats for water voles.
