Broadly speaking, the fencing types below can be divided into two groups: permanent/semi permanent, and temporary.
Timber & Plastic is a very popular solution for short term projects, as it is relatively cheap. Other types of membrane, such as woven polypropylene, can be used with timber stakes, depending on the specifications made by the ecologist. Knighton Countryside Management have never yet met a specification that we were unable to install.
The longer lasting solutions are made from high density polyethylene (HDPE). They are designed specifically for the purpose, and they are manufactured in a variety of heights and densities to cater for different species. The fence is usually made in 3m panels. It is installed in a trench, and the panels are then riveted together. These HDPE panels are more expensive to install, but for longer projects they are ideal as they require less maintenance than the timber & plastic option. They are both reusable and recyclable which means this method is more sustainable in the long run.
