At Knighton Countryside we pride ourselves on our ability to respond at extremely short notice. For this reason, all foremen and team leaders carry emergency risk assessment forms. These are designed to give staff a ‘stop / go’ decision based on a series of safety critical observations. All staff are issued with layered Hi Vis clothing as standard, all of which is compliant with EN471:2003 Class 3. This means that whoever we send to site will have the correct PPE with them. Any additional safety critical site information is communicated via smart phone, and staff habitually contact the office when arriving at or leaving a site. Our vehicle tracking system allows us to monitor staff movements and exact locations as well as allowing us to deploy staff efficiently.
A large proportion of our provision is service rather than product. We have a relatively small supply chain. This means that the majority of our suppliers are well known to us, with relationships having been established over a number of years. We carry out supplier and subcontractor checks annually.
All vehicles and plant are maintained above and beyond the manufacturers’ minimum. LOLER checks are outsourced and are on a regular schedule. This includes both personal kit, and mechanised plant. All tools, machinery and equipment are checked and maintained under The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). Evidence of regular checks can be produced at any time and is provided, along with staff certification, on all sites which require it, before commencing work. Any equipment or machinery used in the workplace is suitable for its intended purpose, regularly maintained to ensure safety, only used by people who have received adequate training, and is inspected by a competent worker.
Personal Protective Equipment
All employees are provided with Hi Visibility clothing branded with the company logo, which conforms to BS EN 471. This includes long sleeved shirts with UV protection, fleeces, waterproofs, chainsaw trousers and lightweight tabards. This ensures that all staff have layered highway compliant clothing for all weathers regardless of where they are working, and increases flexibility and safety, allowing us to service emergency call-outs more efficiently.
All operatives hold a LISS/CSCS Labourer card or higher.
All vehicles and machinery are only operated by personnel with the appropriate licences and qualifications.
Licences are checked on induction and then annually on the DVLA website.
We take pride in our accreditations, including full Arboricultural Association membership, ISO 9001:2015, National Highways Sector Scheme 18, CHAS, SMAS, RISQS, UDVB & Basis.
We are very proud of our status as an Aboricultural Association Approved Contractor. In order to obtain this, we undergo a rigorous onsite audit of work and systems every two years, and a smaller audit annually.
